Build this Lathe Tool Sharpening Station to streamline your tool sharpening workflow. Designed with Rockler's new Rock-Steady Shop Stand Kit (32"W x 20"D x 32"H) as its framework, I can roll it over to my lathe easily, so sharpening will only be a few steps away from the action. Its worktop has an aluminum facing to protect against sparks, plus six holes and a long slot for storing the lathe tools I'm either sharpening at the moment or using while I turn. Two 4"-deep drawers have racks of semicircular holders that can stow a big collection of short or long lathe tools between uses. And a closed cabinet below that can store other turning accessories too.

After you've assembled the Rock-Steady Shop Stand Kit and casters, install a pair of 1/2"-thick plywood side panels with short panhead sheet metal screws driven through the holes in the legs. The author used black screws to blend into the stands framework. Mount two Drawer/Shelf Brackets to each side of the stand. Locate them in the second/third and sixth/seventh holes down from the top ends of the legs. Attach this hardware with machine screws and nuts. The Drawer/Shelf Brackets for 20" Slides, (55788) are manufactured to accept 20" full-extension drawer slides. Fasten one drawer slide to each bracket. Align the front ends of the slide hardware flush with the fronts of the Drawer/Shelf Brackets. Free Turned Tree Ornament Plan Download.
