Power Tools for Pink – Online Auction!

Hey guys!  We are so excited to share a fun cause that we are a part of over the next 2 months!  We have decided to participate with PureBond in their First Annual “Power Tools for Pink” to benefit the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation!  We all know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and we are excited that PureBond has asked us to participate in their online auction!  ALL of the proceeds will be going to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation!

What are they auctioning?  Tables made by DIY Bloggers!  Not only are the tables handmade, they are also made with PureBond plywood.  So, they are gorgeous and  formaldehyde-free!  We took the PureBond Pledge last year because we love the look of the PureBond but more importantly,  we feel safe knowing that the furniture we build with it is not harmful to the air our families breath in our homes!

We chose to build a children’s play table for this auction!  Our kiddos love to have a place to play and the smooth PureBond top makes a perfect place for art projects!  You can bid on this Children’s Play Table and BenchesHERE!

The table and benches are very easy to build and they really are the perfect pieces for beginners to start with!  The table plans are inspired byAna White’s plansbut I modified it a tad and the benches, I designed based on her table plans. Here’s how!

I assembled the entire piece with myKreg Jigand Gorilla Glue wood glue.

I opted to use 2×3’s for the legs to give the table a beefier look and I used 1×4’s for the apron.  This altered the measurements a tad.  The short end aprons were cut @17.5″.

And, the long sides of the apron were cut @25″.

Instead of planking the top, I opted for a smooth surface and PureBond Plywood was the obvious choice 😉  I had the hardware store cut it  @32 x 22 1/2″.  To cover up the edges (they are rough like plywood), I ironed-on edge banding.  This stuff is perfect for Purebond, it’s stainable and makes the top look like a piece of solid hardwood!  Here is a video we shared on how toedge band!

Once the edge banding was done, I wiped on 1-coat of Rust-Oleum Kona stain with a clean cloth.  Let it sit for about 5 minutes and then wiped it with another clean cloth to even the color.

While I waited for the stain to dry, I sprayed 2-coats of Rust-Oleum Heirloom White spray paint on the legs.

Once everything dried, I attached the top with Kreg Jig screws.

And to finish her up, I distressed the edges with my Ryobi Corner Cat!

That was it for the table and the stools were just as easy 🙂

2 – Purebond scrap pieces @ 8″ x 24″

2 – 1×4 @ 3 1/2″

2 – 1×4 @ 16 1/4″

4 – 2×3 @ 12″

I just assembled the benches the same way as the table!  Followed the same steps for the stain and finish and that was it!
